Dear Classmates of 1963.

I have written a book entitled, ASSORTED NUTS, A FAMILY ALBUM which was released to major bookstores and online websites (i.e.: Amazon.com) as of November 17, 2009. I hope you will read it.

It is a humorous memoir which includes my experiences with the quintessential dysfunctional childhood, three husbands, breast cancer and alcoholism. (Yes, I did say humorous). It also includes several chapters about my life at Brownell Junior High School and good ole GPHS. Deane Malchie Preston, Janey Walker Meade, Karen Amluxen Harlan, and Jan Wenzel Rehmann all make cameo appearances.

For the thirteen of you that might actually remember me, my name is Sandy Chapel Bax. If you buy my book, THANK YOU. If you like my book, please make a note on facebook.com so I can show the bookstores how popular I am when the release date arrives.

You can purchase a pre-released copy now by logging onto: http://www.assortednuts-sandybax.com Wishing you tears of laughter. Sandy

I got my BA and JD from the U of Michigan, and entered the financial services industry, first with a small insurance company in Michigan, then with an insurance trade association in DC. In 1980, I moved to Connecticut and joined the law department of CIGNA.  I got married shortly after and my son Greg was born in 1983.  I moved from the law department into a business position, and was promoted to senior vice president.  In 1997 I went to work for ING, both in MN and later back in CT.  In 2001 I retired to Scottsdale and do part time work and travel.  Greg's dad and I divorced, but I've been in a great relationship with Joe Blankenship for the past 9 years.  I managed to miss all our reunions, but think fondly of our years at GPHS.

Currently: lecture, write stuff, develop video games, interactive film & media & also represent a limited number of clients (several recorded the songs we grew up with) and spend way too much time on these miserable LA freeways. Got married to Cupcake in 2009; that same year my hair started to turn grey. (Don't get me wrong - I love Cupcake - but it would sure help if she knew how to drive these miserable freeways.)  No kids that I know of, yet. Close calls, but none have come forward.

Order of Distinguished Attorneys of Beverly Hills Bar Association, Professional Advisor to Motion Picture & Television Fund, Mensa, Intertel, United States Congressional Advisory Board, American Association For Justice & a bunch of bar associations and groups with low membership standards.

Authorship: 10 unexciting, sleep-inducing books (Prentice Hall, Times Mirror, Matthew Bender, LexisNexis, Carolina Academic Press), 70+ articles. First casebook on Videogame Law (2009), First course (2002) and casebook on "Mathematics and Physics For Lawyers" (2010), First officially accredited Videogame (1995 Objection! - world's most popular lawyer game), creator of the original Lawyers Comprehensive Computer Document System (1981).

Due to an early parental, split, I was shipped off to Louisiana & never graduated from GP High School; I know most of you from Kerby School, the scouts, etc. After Practicing law in Farmington Hills for many years, I moved to California. I will probably remain here till I croak.

My wife Livia and I are still in Brooklyn, loving it as a place to live and to raise kids. In recent years it seems that Brooklyn has received a lot of attention as having become cool and hip. Livia and I, needless to say, are neither of these things, though we very much enjoy the fruits of the new Brooklyn.

Pre-hip Brooklyn was a great place to raise our children. We are now down to just one at home, our youngest daughter Hannah. She is a senior in high school this year, and we don’t yet have much of a clue as to what the next year will bring for her. Nor does she. Our middle daughter Sarah is a junior at Michigan, back in Ann Arbor after having spent an exotic first semester in Buenos Aires. Our oldest daughter Leah graduated from Smith in ‘09, and is working in Northampton, Mass while wondering about what to do with the rest of her life.

As for me, I am zeroing in on retirement and, like my oldest daughter, wondering what to do with the rest of my life.  My wife is not nearly so near to retiring as I am, which, unsurprisingly, tends to complicate our discussions of the future. We’ll probably work it all out by just staying put.

My best to old high school friends and acquaintances. 1960-1963 were golden years to be a teenager, made even more so by what we have all lived through since.  The good old days, when there was no “South,” no “North,” and we were all boys and girls at the center of the universe!
