2023 GPHS MUSIC NEWS FROM 1963: Simply do an on line search for "Grosse Pointe 1963 Choir" (without the quotation marks) for two remastered recordings of GPHS performances in April and May of 1963. "The Seven Last Words of Christ" by Theodore DuBois -- with three professional soloists, the 100 voice A Capella Choir and a stunning school orchestra -- also was enhanbced to sound like it was recorded in a performance hall, not a high school gym. On a laptop or other big screen, visuals from The High appesar above the music. About 25 minutes, with the second half best but no apologoies for the first either. The other entry is Wilhousky's arrangement of "The Battle Hymn of The Republic," which in 1958 reportedly scored a Top 10 ranking in Billboard when the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir recorded it at the acoustically perfect Tabernacle in Salt Lake City. At GPHS in May of 1963, two additional student choruses took part, putting over 200 singers behind the same great high school orchestra. See you next weekend!

Hello! I went to some of the early reunions when I still lived in Detroit and one or two after I moved to Maine. I've now lived in Maine for fifty years. I married Louise Gephart in 1982. We had two wonderful kids, Abi, now with two children, and Chris, with one - all girls! Chris still lives in Brooklyn; Abi, after living in several places in Brooklyn and Manhattan, now lives within walking distance. Her two daughters, Aila, almost one, and Fiona, 4 1/2, are the loves of our life. We enjoy the outdoors, camping, hiking, kayaking, and bicycling. I've done many things over the years, including hitchhiking across Canada and down to San Diego, building a cabin in the woods, working as a counselor, and owning my own business, making a couple of documentaries. Since 1990 I have worked at Bowdoin College here in Brunswick, retiring in 2015, staying on for another couple of years as a consultant. I missed the 50th but hope to attend the 60 this September.

Sorry I missed so many reunions. I have been busy.         I worked in Detroit until 1977 when I moved to San Francisco to attend Law School where I got a JD and an LLM(tax) and became a tax attorney with Chevron.       Before that, every day was busy building and racing a Triumph Spitfire at the Waterford Hills Road Racxing Track.  I even won a few races.I  I still have the TR-6 I drove out to Cal.          Never will be able to get all my possessions in one car again.    After tax school I bought an old building and renovated it for offices, started my law firm,, built it to 4 family law attorneys and sold it after I retired in 2015.       Now I am building a garden with espaliered roses on two sides, and travelling to Europe as often as possible.           I look forward to seeing all of you soon.  IF I can find local housing and maybe a roommate.   Let me know  you have housing ideas  ....         See you soon,  susan

Back in Michigan after 20 years in Atlanta and the last 3 (15-18) in Orlando. Hope to spend more time at our cottage on Crystal Lake near Traverse City and watching our Grandchildren enjoy their lives. I've been reading the many messages on this amazing site and thanks to all of those involved in its making.

If my family hadn't moved back to Buffalo, NY, in the summer of '61, I would have graduated GPHS with the class of '63. Although I did graduate from Amherst Central HS, in Snyder, NY,"heart school" has always been GPHS. I sometimes wonder "what if?", but that can of worms is best left unopened.

So much squeezed into one weekend ; but left wanting more! Great venue, great food, and terrific people. We could not have asked for more.   Mike and Pat(Jeffrey) Brady

I wasn't planning on attending our 50th as my husband was out of town and it was a little scary to go alone, but, seeing all of my high school friends and sharing funny stories was so much fun, I'm so glad I went.   Our class looks pretty darn good!!  Thanks to the committee for such a special night and especially to Paul and Jeff for the hassle an "add-on" might have been!

This was the first reunion I had the pleasure attending since the 5 year reunion. I am still smiling  and laughing at all of the wonderful memories. I loved seeing so many of our alumni and sharing past histories. I wish I had attended previous reunions, but plan on attending future reunions, Lord willing! So many THANKS to Paul and the reunion committee for putting together all of the fantastic events. I am looking forward to keeping in touch with so many of you beautiful friends!

Hello my dearest classmates from the great Class of '63 Just want to say how much we enjoyed our Friday night event at Fishbones restaurant.  I came with my dear husband Jack Scott and we were fortunate to bring our beautiful granddaughter, Chelsea Adams.  She just graduated from our Alma Mater this year in 2013!!!  I thought I'd prepare her for what she has in store for her in 50 years!  It was hilarious because one of our male classmates asked her for the name of her plastic surgeon as she looked so young for being age 68! Jack and I will be at all the events this weekend and I'll be the one with the Nikon camera, so PLEASE make sure to find me so I can take your picture.  I'll post them on this website but if you would like me to send it to you, give me your Email or hook up with me on Facebook. Sending hugs to all of you!  Margene (Seyler) Scott

For the 40yh reunion, I think I told you about my "second family" (my birth family, whom I found after my adoptive father disowned me.

For the 50th, I'll tell you about my second husband: I'm now married to David Weight (who will come to the reunion). We were introduced in 1964 (I was at Vassar then, and they were at Princeton) by Bob Wells, but given that he fixed me up with David's roommate and my friend Stacey with David, it took 40 years for us to begin to sort this out and a few more years for me to move from Toronto to Lansing and for David and I to get married. But we do owe it all to Bob Wells, because at the 40th reunion I did ask Bob "whatever happened to David Weight?" -- and the rest is history.

I suppose that I should also mention  that I've had a stroke, and neither walk too well nor talk too well, but David and I do know all of the rock songs from 1957 on (in fact we have been known to burst into song, so watch out).

I'm so disappointed that I won't be able to attend the 50th reunion.  I attended the 40th and had a great time.  Although I didn't graduate with most of you, I hope my friends and classmates from Richard will remember me.  I retired 7 years ago and became an artist.  I hope you'll take a look at my work at www.LynnMorganGallery.com.  I'm also on Facebook at Lynn Morgan Fine Art and my personal page, Lynn Harris Morgan.  I live in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, have a daughter and 2.5 grandchildren.

Dear Classmates,     I have some treasured memories. Some of them are from high school days. I had a lot of pep and spirit supporting my friends on the basketbal team.     I attended Wayne Stae and earned my degree in Scuplture and Three Dimensional Design. I worked as a substitute teacher in elementary schools. After I moved to San Diego, I substituted in some parochial schools.     I am presently renting  a lovely apartment in Escondido, 45 miles  north of San Diego. My roommate David,  and I met in a local support group. We are both very supportive of each other and we frequently tell each other how fortunate we are to have met and share many common interests and values. We found a wonderful apartment complex together that has many amenities. There are two large buildings each housing about 150 residents for seniors, 55 and older. Each building has a large recreation area with large screen TVs, a heated swimming pool, a jacuzzi, and beatifully landscaped grounds     Each month there are a wide variety of activities: a monthly potluck and dance, twice monthly karaoke nights, holiday barbecues, an occassional catered dinner, card playing groups and bible studies, and sometimes a local musical group performs.      It is centrally located near a grocery store, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Senior Center which hosts catered lunches 5 days a week which I attend regularly and eat with a group of friends.     Before lunch I bike 10 minutes to the YMCA which has an Olympic size outdoor pool with lap lanes and water aerobics classes. I swim 7 days a week for about 45 minutes each day. I visit my chiropractor every 2 weeks and my psychologist every month.     I couln't ask for a better living location. In another direction, a 15 minute bike ride gets me to the public library where I enjoy checking out numerous books, most often biographies. The most aspiring one has been the life story of Mother Teresa. I've read three books about her incredible love for people, and especially children who are challenged.     In each of the last 3 years with careful planning and budgeting I have been able to visit my nephew and his family just outside of  Washington, DC. He works for the Air Force at the Pentagon, while Sara, his wife is a nurse. They are a combined family now with 4 girls, the oldest who has graduated from college, the other three, Linda, Emily and Rebeka are teenagers and still live at home.     This year I took Amtrak to the Northwest to visit my two brothers and their wives. James and Kate are both recently retired from public health, and Jerry works parttime doing landscaping while Ann works for a large law firm as a paralegal. They both live in older houses that have kept them busy with numerous house projects as well as their own beautiful gradens.      Last night James and Kate came over and we all shared cherry pie, ice cream, black cherries and ice tea as we sat outside on their wide front porch.     I was inspired to become a Christian 42 years ago when James donated a kidney to Jerry. In the following 3 years, I helped my parents recover emotionally and mentally from the ordeal and get back on their feet, sell their house and retire to California.     I hope you have enjoyed hearing about some of my extended family.     I am grateful for the Social Security income thats helps pay for my cell phone that allows me to keep in regular contact with my family.     I have a wondeful support group that meets weekly. We often go out for coffee and lemonade each week and share times together going to the beach where we take our beach chairs and a sun canopy, going to someone's house for a dinner and games or just visiting together.  Saturdays my friends and I get together for lunch at someone's house where we play a number of board and card games. My friends, Lois, Andrew, Rose, Jo Ann and Jack are a lot of fun.     I am looking forward to hearing from you by snail mail(715 N. Broadway, Apt. 202, Escondido, CA 92025), phone(760-755-4592) or you can email me through Jerry at LBAdventures@hotmail.com.             I hope this note finds you in good health.

Grosse Pointe HS Alumnus- Class of 1963

July, 2013

To: Fellow classmates
      Grosse Pointe HS
      Class of 1963

Dear Blue Devils,   You all should know by now that we have the opportunity to celebrate our 50th Class Reunion the upcoming weekend of September  20-22.    The Homecoming Committee has done an outstanding job of planning a special celebration, as the Saturday night party will be held at The Grosse Pointe Yacht Club.  The Yacht Club has always been my favorite venue for such occasions and I’m really looking forward to being there.  It will be absolutely beautiful and will bring back memories of what makes Grosse Pointe such a special place.   I didn’t attend the first several reunions:  I was either busy with summer plans or maybe I just wasn’t in a place where I felt like seeing people.  For a lot us, life outlooks changed so much after we graduated.  Some may say this is a stretch:  but the dramatic social upheaval that impacted our generation after 1963 of sex, drugs, rock and roll, and war can be compared to the impact the Great Depression had for our grandparents, or perhaps of WWII  for our parents.   We’re survivors and we need to congratulate each other on that fact as well as honoring those classmates we have lost.

At any rate, I’ve found that reunions are special for several reasons,  but I think that foremost for me has been the opportunity to reconnect with people that I probably would never have seen again.    50 years is a long time:  Golden when it comes to marriage.  If you’re vacillating on whether you can make it, please consider this a golden opportunity and make the effort.  I think you’ll find as I have, that it was well worth it.

Bob

Oh, and for those of you who attended the 45th, I promise not to bring any musical instruments.

D. Michael Brady (class of 63)and I have been married for 45 years this June. We have 2 sons and 5 grandchildren. I graduated with a teaching certificate from Wayne State in 1968. Although I was teaching kindergarten when married, I became a stay at home mom shortly after.  Michael and I built our home in Rochester Michigan 32 years ago. We spend much time with our car buddies. We have a 1933 Rolls Royce we showed at Pebble Beach in 2004 and a 2006 Aston Martin that takes us to many club events. Since we both retired in 2010 we are enjoying travel greatly. This year we spent 2 weeks in Rome, French riviera and Monoco for the Formula Grand Prix in May.

%u200B   Wow, 50 years?  Sure don't feel fifty years older but I'm sure I look it.  Looking forward to seeing all at upcoming reunion.  Haven't been back to gp in years so it should be fun reconnecting.     I stay busy walking my two mutts, chauffeuring my granddaughter to and from soccer games and track meets and visiting my newest grandson, Ben, in Portland, OR.  Life has been challenging at times but almost always happy!  I've been living in asheville nc area for about 23 years and love it but never seem to get over missing Lake St. Clair and hearing the freighters sound their horns.  Hope to see you all this September!

For the first time I am looking at this site and am impressed with the detail and amount of information that the graduation committee has put together for all of us.

I am living outside of Atlanta in Cumming Ga and spend time in Florida (Miromar Lakes), near Naples. Still counseling, volunteering, involved in bible study, gourmet and card groups. 3 grandkids from our 2 sons.

To me, this is the big one-50 years!!  My husband and I look forward to the weekend events and catching up with everyone.

Hello to All!   (July 2012)

Went to Michigan State after GPHS. Met Judy in Bermuda in 1966, where my dad and stepmother lived, and got married in 1968.

I have worked for the same company for 39 years as an electronics engineer, providing highly accurate sound reinforcement systems in meeting rooms (like churches) and video surveillance systems, mostly for police departments. Judy has been a court reporter (stenographer) for 37 years. We have always been paid for what we do rather than for hours logged, so we have traveled much of the world.

I became a Christian in 1987 and we both went on 11 two-week mission trips to the former Soviet Union in the middle of winter, from 1995 to 2007---brrrr! Life-changing experiences, for sure. We were the first Americans most Russians had ever seen.

Besides singing BARIT-tone in the choir (get it?), I enjoy riding our Harley Softail, shooting in competitive pistol matches, traveling, and digital videography/photography,  .

Life is surely a blessing...will be married 44  joyful years this year with the help of our loving God--couldn\'t have lasted that long without Him! We have a wonderful Schnauzer and good health.

Hope you all are well and enjoying life!

Dear Classmates of 1963.

I have written a book entitled, ASSORTED NUTS, A FAMILY ALBUM which will be released to major bookstores and online websites (i.e.: Amazon.com) as of November 17, 2009. I hope you will read it.

It is a humorous memoir which includes my experiences with the quintessential dysfunctional childhood, three husbands, breast cancer and alcoholism. (Yes, I did say humorous). It also includes several chapters about my life at Brownell Junior High School and good ole GPHS. Deane Malchie Preston, Janey Walker Meade, Karen Amluxen Harlan, and Jan Wenzel Rehmann all make cameo appearances.

For the thirteen of you that might actually remember me, my name is Sandy Chapel Bax. If you buy my book, THANK YOU. If you like my book, please make a note on facebook.com so I can show the bookstores how popular I am when the release date arrives.

You can purchase a pre-released copy now by logging onto: http://www.tatepublishing.com/bookstore/book.php?w=978-1-60799-975-1

Wishing you tears of laughter. Sandy

I would have graduated with GPHS class of '63, had we not moved back to Buffalo, NY, the summer before my junior year. I graduated from Amherst Central HS, Snyder, NY, in 1963, but Grosse Pointe is where my heart was and still is. The memories come clearer and dearer the older I get. When is the next reunion? I would so love to see my old GPHS friends at least once more.

Swear to God this is true.  I just saw Doug Blatt at the Pancake House.  I asked if I would see him this weekend at the reunion.  He looked at me.  Looked at me.  And looked at me.  He calmly said, "Jo, the reunion was last weekend."  Guess this means I win the Alzheimer's Award.  So, I thinking I'll see you all in 5 years.  OR, if anyone's around and doesn't have anything to do THIS weekend, I'm available.  I have a hair appointment etc.!  I amaze myself.  I hear you all had a great time.  I'm just shaking my head.

We will be in Germany for a wedding.

I would like to thank all the people, for all the years service putting these class reunions together. It must be a tremendous amount of work gathering information on so many individuals. While I've never attended one, I do appreciate reading about old friends from years gone by.
My sincere appreciations.

Can't wait.  I'm anxious to see everyone since I was MIA for the last reunion.  George has never stopped giving me a bad time about that and swears I missed the time of my life.  Goodness knows, I'm not going to a) miss out on something that great again and b) give George something else to give me grief about for another 5 years.  (Love you, George!  Really!)
