I will be 80 years old this year and a Great grandmother! Where in the world did the time go! Years ago, one of my grandsons looked at our year book and then asked me ‘what was the world like when it was black and white’! I told him it was absolutely amazing!
2023 GPHS MUSIC NEWS FROM 1963: Simply do an on line search for "Grosse Pointe 1963 Choir" (without the quotation marks) for two remastered recordings of GPHS performances in April and May of 1963. "The Seven Last Words of Christ" by Theodore DuBois -- with three professional soloists, the 100 voice A Capella Choir and a stunning school orchestra -- also was enhanbced to sound like it was recorded in a performance hall, not a high school gym. On a laptop or other big screen, visuals from The High appesar above the music. About 25 minutes, with the second half best but no apologoies for the first either. The other entry is Wilhousky's arrangement of "The Battle Hymn of The Republic," which in 1958 reportedly scored a Top 10 ranking in Billboard when the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir recorded it at the acoustically perfect Tabernacle in Salt Lake City. At GPHS in May of 1963, two additional student choruses took part, putting over 200 singers behind the same great high school orchestra. See you next weekend!
